Introduction
When documents have security prior to uploading to MySCView, there may be errors not allowing them to successfully upload due to that security. This security is commonly set forth by Universities for transcripts, or banks for account information, as they do not want the files to be manipulated in any way, including importing to other systems or printing.
A. Problem
The system may provide an error message regarding a PDF we are trying to upload to our system due to the PDF's set security.
B. Solution
In order to successfully import the document, security will need to be removed from the PDF.
If you need assistance with these steps, please contact your IT team. Support will be able to assist with any documents after they are successfully saved within our system.
Step 1:
Open the PDF in your computer's browser. Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge will work. If your computer does not open PDFs through your browser by default, you can do this by right clicking on the file, and selecting Open with > Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge.
Step 2:
Now that the PDF is opened in your browser, click the printer icon to Print.
Step 3:
On the Print Preview screen, choose Save as PDF. Then click the Save button at the bottom of that screen and save it somewhere on your computer.
Step 4:
Now go back to MySCView and upload the newly saved file. We should no longer have security on the file.

Troubleshooting:
If we want to confirm if a PDF is secure by password protection, we can open the file in Adobe Acrobat Reader if this is installed on your computer.
(NOTE: We do not provide support for Adobe programs. This is only to help you see if external PDF files are protected by Adobe.)
In Adobe, click the Menu bar on the top left corner.
Choose Protection > Security Properties.
If there is security, it will say something like Security Method: Password Security.
There are also Document Restrictions Summary that may show more restrictions not allowing a PDF to be uploaded even outside of Password Security.
Conclusion
Protected PDF files are secured outside of our system, and these steps will need to be completed as a way to remove the security for successful uploads.
