Introduction

Welcome to the SCView Financial Dashboard Custom Tab Creation Guide. This comprehensive guide will assist you in personalizing your financial dashboard by creating custom tabs tailored to your specific reporting needs. Whether you need a classic view or a budget-focused tab, our step-by-step process ensures that you can customize your dashboard efficiently to better support your financial analysis and management.

A. Problem Statement

Organizations often face challenges when it comes to effectively managing and interpreting financial data. With a one-size-fits-all dashboard, critical financial insights may become obscured, affecting decision-making processes. The inability to customize dashboards to highlight relevant data tailored to specific business needs can lead to inefficiencies and missed opportunities for strategic financial planning and management.

B. Solution

To address these challenges, SCView offers a customizable Financial Dashboard that allows users to create tailored tabs suited to their unique financial reporting requirements. By following our simple steps, users can create and manipulate custom tabs that highlight the most relevant financial data, whether focusing on revenue, expenses, or specific budgets, to improve data accessibility and enhance strategic insights.

Step 1: Access the Financial Dashboard

Begin by navigating to the Financial Dashboard's home screen. Once on the home screen, locate and select the Administration tab. This will serve as your starting point for creating a custom tab tailored to your financial data needs.

Step 2: Locate and Initialize Dashboard Tab Configuration

In the bottom left-hand corner of the Administration tab, you will find the Dashboard Tab Configuration section. Here, click on the plus sign (+) icon to initiate the creation of a new custom tab. This action will enable you to add a specialized view to your Financial Dashboard to spotlight key financial metrics.

  • Search Bar: Utilize the search bar to quickly locate existing tabs by entering relevant keywords from any column in the grid display.
  • Checkbox for Budget Tabs: Selecting this checkbox will enable the filter builder for budget tabs, allowing for more refined data filtering.
  • Pencil Icon: Click on this icon to make edits to tabs you have previously created, facilitating updates or changes.
  • Trash Can Icon: By clicking this icon, you can delete a tab. Please note that deletion will affect all users who have access to this tab.

Step 3: Configure Your Dashboard Tab

Upon clicking the plus sign (+) icon, a Dashboard Tab Info popup will appear, providing a suite of options to tailor your tab:

  • Type: Decide if your custom tab will be a Classic or Budget tab based on your reporting needs.
  • Title:  Enter the main title that will appear on the menu bar, providing a clear and concise identifier for your tab.
  • Subtitle: Add a subtitle to provide additional context or details beneath the main title.
  • Line #: Determine the display order of your custom tabs, prioritizing them as necessary by adjusting their line numbers.
  • Printable: Enabling this option allows you to utilize the print icon located under your username to generate a hard copy of the custom tab page.
  • Icon Class: Choose an icon from the dropdown menu to visually differentiate your tab on the dashboard.
  • Display Options: Select whether to display Revenue, Expense, or both, depending on the financial data you wish to highlight on the tab.
  • User Ids: Specify which users will have access to this tab by entering their corresponding user IDs.
  • And +: To display specific data, start by defining the conditions or groups you want to showcase. Next, click on Fund and select an appropriate option from the dropdown menu. Then, input a valid value corresponding to your selection in the field labeled <enter a value>. This process will ensure that the tab accurately reflects the precise data associated with the selected fund.

Step 4: Explore Examples

To further guide your configuration, review the provided examples illustrating the structure and features of both a Classic tab and a Budget tab. These examples serve as a reference to ensure your custom tab meets your organizational requirements and reporting objectives effectively.

C. Best Practices

  1. Plan Your Custom Tabs: Before you start creating custom tabs, outline what specific data or metrics you need the most, ensuring that you tailor each tab to an exact requirement or question you need to answer monthly or quarterly.
  2. Use Meaningful Titles and Subtitles: Clearly name your tabs using titles and subtitles that reflect the data content. This will help users navigate them easily and understand the focus of each tab.
  3. Organize Tab Order: Use the Line # option to organize your tabs based on priority or frequently used data sets. Keep the most frequently accessed tabs within easy reach.
  4. Leverage User IDs for Access Control: Carefully assign User IDs to ensure that only authorized personnel can access sensitive financial data within certain tabs.
  5. Regularly Update Tabs: Periodically review and update the content, access, and structure of your custom tabs to keep up with evolving financial data needs and organizational changes.

D. Troubleshooting

  • Tab Not Appearing: Ensure that you’ve correctly assigned Line # and User IDs. Also, check that you haven’t inadvertently deleted the tab.
  • Unable to Edit Tab: Confirm that you have the necessary permissions to make changes to the tab. Use the pencil icon for editing and verify that changes are saved.
  • Error in Data Display: Verify if the data conditions or groups were correctly set up in the And + section to reflect accurate data. Reconfigure if needed.
